LASS is probably one of the most relaxed astro observing clubs you could ever expect to find. We are more interested in learning and teaching the ins and out of visual observing than we are about organization. We are very high on personal interaction within the club and this makes for a lot of good conversation during our observing sessions. There is always a hot cup of coffee available and the clubhouse is only five steps away from the observing field. It is fully equipped with all the amenities you could ever need.

The LASS observing field is located at 1180 Addison Rd, Lipan. Here are the driving directions to the site from various towns around Lipan.

The club has been blessed with the addition of several new members and some mighty fine telescopes. Currently THERE ARE TWO 20 INCH DOBS and a scattering of just slightly smaller DOB's. Throw in 3 or 4 Schmidt-Cassegrain's and some other types and you can see LASS is into the observing scene. There is a small smattering of astro imaging equipment and a lot of learing curves in that area. There is no requirement for anyone to own a telescope or other observing equipment however, a secondary objective of LASS is to generate enough interest in its members to cause them to want to purchase a personal telescope.

Membership in LASS is free to anyone desiring to associate themselves with the local club. There are no monthly or yearly dues and members are not required to attend any gatherings scheduled by the club. For purposes of associating with other astronomy organizations, a formal membership roll will be maintained.

LASS is affiliated with the national organization "NIGHT SKY NETWORK". This organization is sponsored by NASA and the JET PROPULSION LAB. Night Sky Network provides training aids and educational materials to local astronomy clubs to use in their efforts to raise public awareness in amateur astronomy.
